For Mable Weaver, one of the first residents to move to the apartments at Mountain View Terrace (MVT) when the building opened in 2015, gathering to play games from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. every evening has become one of the best parts of living there.

ur family has always been big game players and I like sharing the ones I know with others,” she says. “A favorite is Crazy Uno! Playing this game helps us get to know each other and we laugh a lot!”
Mary Hart is a more recent arrival to MVT, and she also loves heading to the Community Room to play games. “We average between 7-10 players most nights. It is great to have a group of people who gather and just enjoy each other’s company. It also has been a great way to get to know those who have been here longer than I have.”
Both Mable and Mary say they are glad the Community Room has the space to provide residents with a way to get out of their apartments and have social interaction without needing to leave the building. Tis is especially important during the colder months. “When it rains or snows,” Mable says, “I plan to stay inside! Knowing I can just walk to game times makes it much easier to participate.”
Mable also utilizes the Community Room to lead an optional Bible study for her fellow residents. While it takes effort to prepare, she is glad to share this time with her neighbors.
“It’s a tight-knit community, not just a place to live,” says Jane Wilt, Community Manager. “So many residents enjoy interacting and helping each other. Every day, I see residents being great neighbors.”
Mountain View Terrace is the result of a collaboration between Welsh Mountain Home, Landis Communities and HDC MidAtlantic to create comfortable and affordable housing for those age 62 and over who have limited income. MVT has been full since opening and now has an extensive waiting list.
In April of 2023, HDC MidAtlantic and Landis Quality Living signed a Joint Venture agreement to formalize a partnership to identify potential sites, equally fund and actively participate in all steps of the development process of more housing locations like MVT.
