Landis Quality Living Introduces Another Affordable Home for Aging Adults


Landis Communities/Landis Quality Living and HDC MidAtlantic are collaborating to develop Cornerstone at 6th & Chestnut, a transformative affordable housing community for older adults in Reading, PA.

ornerstone at 6th & Chestnut will convert a once beautiful commercial building in the


heart of Reading into 46 units of high-quality affordable homes for those age 62 and older. By creating new affordable housing units within the walls of an existing structure, the intent is to preserve a historic community property and stimulate the economic development of the neighborhood while providing community members with safe and affordable homes where they can thrive.


Te project will include 46 apartments, all ADA-accessible or adaptable. Tirty-nine 1- bedroom units will range in size from 600 to 787 SF. Seven 2-bedroom units will be 864 to 945 SF. All will be income- and rent-restricted to serve households earning 20-60% of area median income.

A shared community room with kitchenette will encourage socialization and group activities. An on-site management and maintenance staff will ensure responsive property management, while an on-site Resident Services Coordinator and Care Navigator will help coordinate medical care, host educational and social activities, and connect residents to a wealth of outside services. Te thoughtful design and inclusion of supportive services will combine to provide a truly caring environment for residents.


Low Income Housing Tax Credit has been awarded for this project and development plans are underway. Cornerstone at 6th & Chestnut is expected to welcome residents in 2028.
