Lucy Oberholtzer did not intend to work at Landis Homes for 45 years, but in 2025, she celebrated this amazing milestone, something done previously by very few other team members.


“ I


grew up on a farm down the road. When Landis Homes was being built, my siblings and I used to come up and walk around. When I was old enough to work, it was convenient to apply at Landis Homes. One of my sisters also works with me too. I didn’t expect to be here for so long! I settled into Dining Services and stayed there for 27 years,” Lucy shared.


She eventually made the switch from Dining Services to Housekeeping. Troughout her tenure, Lucy has remained a team member who leads others and is recognized as a humble, hard worker among her colleagues. Over the years, Lucy has seen Landis Homes grow and change, witnessed some huge snowstorms, and worked with team members who later became residents.


“Trough some of the renovations, I remember having to cook in the hallway and then having to travel to East campus with all of the washable things like trays to wash in the kitchen. Tat was challenging! A humbling experience in the very beginning was a time when I accidentally used lemon Jello instead of lemon pudding in pies! I was unsure what to do and stressed about it, but thankfully, we were able to save them and the people enjoyed them anyway!”


While Lucy has a lot of stories about coworkers from over the years, her favorite part of working at Landis Homes is the residents.


“My favorite memories are with specific residents and even their families. Tere are a few I will never forget. You build relationships and connections with them and their families. It’s rewarding and they are always appreciative,” Lucy said.
