Steve and Elaine Sweeley may be in their 60s but they are newlyweds living out their love story, which is about to start a new chapter in Lancaster County.
T
he Sweeleys married nearly three years ago and knew they wanted to eventually downsize, rather than handle the upkeep of the properties they both owned prior to marriage. When
they contacted Landis Homes, the Sweeleys were told about the new expansion project, Te Meadows. Tey loved the idea of moving into a brand new place!
Steve and Elaine, both widowed, met on eHarmony. “We just decided to give online dating a try,” Steve said. “And it worked!” Steve, who owned a tool and die shop, has three sons and 11 grandchildren. Elaine, who worked as a certified school nurse, has a son, daughter and four grandsons, some who live locally. For the Sweeleys, being able to be close to their family members is a huge perk of living in Te Meadows.
Another benefit is living in a faith-based community. Te Sweeleys attend Millersville Bible Church and are delighted to have found a place to call home that shares their values.
Moving to Te Meadows will also bring peace of mind. Tey will no longer have to worry about keeping up Steve's house and a farm in northern PA and Elaine’s beach house in Ocean City, MD. “Landis Homes is a beautiful facility. It will be nice not worrying about all the things you have to do when keeping up a house,” said Steve.
Now they’re preparing for the move of a lifetime – constructing a retirement full of connection, community, and holistic wellness. Tey’re eagerly anticipating making good use of the fitness center, pool, and the soon-to-be-constructed pickleball courts. Steve is especially excited about the new wood shop and golf simulator that will be located in the B.A.R.N. (Building for Artistry and Recreation with Neighbors). And one of the biggest perks is that Oregon Dairy is within walking distance… Steve is awaiting ice cream every night!
“We’re looking forward to getting to know other people and forming friendships with neighbors moving in at the same time,” shared Elaine. Teir experience working with staff has been amazing. “I feel like everybody’s got our best interests in mind,” Steve said. “Everyone we met at the open house we attended was very happy and joyful.”
Te Sweeleys have also witnessed stewardship, one of Landis Communities guiding values, in how the residents care deeply about their community and are very involved. Steve and Elaine are excited to discover how their story will unfold as they move to Te Meadows at Landis Homes.
