open to individuals from diverse backgrounds, with no prior experience required. Applicants need to have lived in the UK continuously for three years or more, be over sixteen years old and not currently be receiving any other funded learning. PQMS will support learners to upskill their Maths and English where needed as part of the program as this is proven to improve their prospects.
For those already working in related fields, an assessment will be conducted prior to the course start to ascertain skill levels. If a student can demonstrate new skills and key learnings to satisfy the government eligibility requirements then they are able to become a drainage apprentice.
Collaboration and Support
The success of the 2025 Drainage Apprenticeship hinges on the commitment of employers engaging and enrolling new apprentices on the scheme to drive new blood, and life and diversity into the sector. PQMS will provide the training initially with the range of providers growing over time. The awarding bodies overseeing this apprenticeship will be EU Skills and SMART awards.
Key partners already engaged with the scheme include OPC Drainage services, FM Conway, Hartsmil, Metcor and many others of note.
