30 • SPOTLIGHT • WINTER 2018
The 2018 TRYathlon was fully subscribed for the sixth year in a row, with 250 participants taking part in the various team and relay events, before enjoying a well-earned BBQ lunch in the sunshine and delightful surroundings of the Tockington Manor School.
This year, we raised over £5,000 for our charity partner, The Gurkha Welfare Trust whose mission is to ensure Gurkha veterans in Nepal are able to live their lives with dignity, by providing financial, medical and community aid.
We also saw a new course record with Stan Gruncell of Vectos, clocking up an impressive time of 00:50:26 as a prelude to jetting off to take on the Brownlee Brothers later in the summer!
We would like to thank everyone who took part for their support and look forward to seeing you all again in 2019 for more fun and guaranteed sunshine!
I was absolutely blown away by the amount you raised for the GWT. This sum will make a huge
difference in Nepal. For instance £5,000 could provide a Welfare
Pension for a veteran Gurkha or widow for 3 years; or it could provide a new earthquake resistant home for a family; or the salary of a GWT Nurse for a year; or the gift of sight to 100 veterans/widows. The list is endless but I hope this gives you some idea of the impact relatively small amount of money can have in Nepal.
