Catch the Vision
A Servant of Christ by Julie Ann Simpson
Although this page usually tells the story of how a person has found an opportunity to tell another about Christ and God’s salvation, it seemed appropriate to tell the story of an ordinary person who has impacted others for God through a well-lived faith. —the Editor
Linda Tofsrud, a very dear member of Northwest Bible Church of Calgary, never missed church. In fact, she was always there before anyone else, setting out the bulletins she had prepared, finalizing the PowerPoint® she had put together, printing music sheets for the choir, and then singing in the choir herself. Once a month you would also find her managing the kitchen, preparing for our potluck meals. On Feb. 2 Linda went to the emergency room instead of to
church. Over the next nine weeks, her life hung in the balance. Pastor John visited her daily, comforting her and her family and oſten meeting with the doctors and staff. In the end, the gracious way Linda accepted her coming death was a testimony to those who cared for her. On Sunday, April 8, the choir and several other friends went
to the hospital so she could take part in church one last time. As we stood around her bed and sang and worshiped God, Linda
managed a weak smile and sang along ever so soſtly. We prayed to- gether and committed her to the Lord, each saying our goodbyes, “until we meet again.” Tree days later Linda was home in heaven. Forty-five coworkers came to her funeral and talked about
the impact her love and service had made. Te CEO said it now seemed like their “mother” was no longer in the house. Linda did so much more than her job. She was the one who encouraged coworkers when they were down. Now the one who said the kind words and did all the behind-the-scenes tasks was gone, leaving a big empty space in their office lives. Because Linda’s life was lived so well, her death meant that
many people came to her funeral and heard the gospel preached. Her office supplied the lunch as a way of saying thank you for Linda’s generous service to them. We’re praying that many people will come to Jesus as a result
of her life and death.
