Málaga Team b by Mar lyn Le byMariilyn Lesteester
THE BUILDING OF A WALL In May, a group of people from Community Bible Church, Oma- ha, and representing FEBC had the opportunity to travel to Mála- ga, Spain, to build a wall along the front property line of Avant’s media center there. Tis team consisted of Jon Carrison, Brian and Susanna Dick, Sue Foshee, Gary Kruse, Doyle and Marilynn Les- ter, and. Debi Weihing. Cristy Hofer, FEBC/Avant global partner in Málaga, joined the team and worked with us during this time. As we prepared for this trip, I was reminded of Nehemiah
who was led by God to organize a team to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He started with prayer and continued trusting the Lord throughout the whole project, even through difficult circumstanc- es. I was also reminded of Gideon who started out with 30,000 men to go to fight the Midianites. God, step by step, proceeded to cut that number down to 300 men to defeat a vast army. When we originally formed our team, we thought we had a
strong team which included a retired masonry contractor. Ten, his wife had a stroke, and he was needed at home. Another person joined the team, which was an answer to prayer, but a week before we leſt, one team member developed serious health issues, and the doctor restricted him from traveling. Like Nehemiah, in our

weakness we asked God for strength and relied on God to get the wall completed. We knew God was going to have to do a mighty work among us, and he would get all the glory for the work that was accomplished. We all knew God had something he wanted to teach all of us through this trip. Before we arrived, another team had poured the footings and
laid the first course of block. Te wall measures 55 meters (180 feet) long with one auto gate and one walking gate. Te wall is 10 blocks high with 18 columns, using 8 inch rock-face block and 12 by 12 inch decorative blocks. Gary acted as the job foreman and kept everyone working ef-
ficiently. Doyle and Jon laid the block, Debi operated the cement mixer to produce the mortar and concrete. Brian delivered the mortar to the layers and helped Cristy and Sue grout the block cells to stabilize the wall. Susanna, Sue and Marilynn did various other supporting jobs, such as cutting rebar and fencing, tuck pointing, and washing down the wall. Susanna and Marilynn also prepared the snacks and meals for the team. When the team arrived, our orientation included a tour of the
media center and a history of the center. Jordan Samuels, speaking as a representative of the center, challenged us with these perspectives:
