Roller
Most clay will need to be rolled out at some point during the shaping process and a lightweight, plastic roller is the ideal tool for the job.
Badger Balm or Olive Oil
It is essential to coat both your hands, tools and work surface with a thin layer of either Badger Balm or olive oil to prevent the clay from sticking. Both of these products are organic and will produce no adverse affects to the finished piece. Olive oil can be kept in a small dish on your work surface and applied with a paintbrush; where as Badger Balm is sold in solid form, usually in a tin and is available from jewellery and craft suppliers.
Craft knife
You will need some sort of craft knife for cutting and shaping PMC. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy but ideally it should be reserved only for use with PMC to avoid cross contamination of materials.
Clay Shaper
A clay shaper is a multipurpose tool with shaped rubber ends which are used to sculpt, blend and smooth clay without any build up on the tool itself. If you are going to buy one specialist tool for your new PMC hobby, then a clay shaper or a set of clay shapers would be a good choice.
