Overview of a STEM Event
What is a STEM Event?
A STEM event is a perfect event to engage with other organizations in your community and possibly be invited to participate in their events and gain more exposure for your program and more potential partners and sponsors.
Events can be designed in many forms; allow two to four hours for the event and begin planning several months in advance. Event formats can include:
• Daytime Festivals – create a community experience by inviting everyone to your facility to engage in different activities during the day. This often works well when working as part of an already established event or multi-day festival because it guarantees an audience.
• Evening Gatherings – host a club- or organization-wide event in the evening once programming is over for the day. Invite your program participants, their family members and anyone else who access your facility.
• Programmatic STEM Event – adjust your regularly scheduled programs to have an afternoon of STEM activities. Invite family members to watch students engage in different activities centered on the Reach curriculum.
• Marine Debris Cleanup – Conduct Module 6 from the Reach curriculum after any waterfront event, regatta or organizational event that you conduct throughout the season.
