Mastman Pre-Sail
Primary Job Responsibility
Inspect all halyards and sail controls at the mast. Make sure your personal safety equipment is available an operating properly
Departing the Dock Rail Position

Docking Reefing
Assist with dock lines
Hike as directed – relay messages to cockpit from Foredeck
Assist foredeck crew with halyards. Be prepared to help ease halyards for drop, and jump halyard for set
Help clear jib around mast
Jibing w/o Spinnaker Move to windward, keeping clear of all lines
Ensure proper spinnaker pole setup/ height. Raise inboard end of the spinnaker pole
Adjust spinnaker pole as needed Raise inboard end of the pole Drop end of pole after drop
Assist where necessary with hoist, drop and, where necessary, change
Assist foredeck member as directed Prepare for spinnaker or jib hoists
Hike as directed Assist with dock lines
Assist as required getting mainsail down in new position
Secondary Job Responsibility
Follow halyards to the top of the spar looking for any trips, warps or snags that could prevent smooth halyard operation
Assist as directed
Make sure communication is clear between foredeck and afterguard
Make sure that halyards are clear for sail change and that you are not tangled in any halyard wraps
Clear jib skirt if needed Assist as directed
Assist foredeck crew with maneuver
Properly adjust the inboard end of the pole
Raise inboard end of the pole after it has been tripped.
Assist where necessary with drop
Assist with bringing new sail on deck
Remove sail from deck
Listen for instructions and assist as directed

Assist as directed hike on windward if not required.
