Crosswind Approach 1 Turn boat so it is parallel to and upwind of slip. 2 Adjust speed with gearshift to maneuver boat into slip, using foward momentum and windage.
3 Shift to reverse to stop boat. Secure dock lines. 2 1 WIND 3
Backing Into a Slip 1 Make a 90° turn just to windward of slip. 2 Pass close to windward piling as you back into slip, so a person can put loop end of bow line over piling (or pick up line attached to piling).
3 Pass stern line to cleat on slip when stern gets close enough to slip.
4 Once these two lines are attached, pull boat back with bow line to pass second bow line over (or pick up line from) other piling and then back in to rig the second stern line.
