Just across the valley from Verbier, Eddy and Marie Paul Murisier run Restaurant de Moay. Set at an altitude of 5,577ft on the slopes of Mount Bruson, the restaurant is a favourite with farming locals, serving a fondue made of raclette and gruyère. Here, the couple and a friend enjoy the dish with wine from the surrounding Valais region while discussing exciting news about Eddy and Marie’s son, Justin Murisier, a giant slalom ski racer and local hero who just missed out on a medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. Photographer Pierre Menasse returns to
the village of Le Chable, in the valley just below Verbier, after spending the day up on the slopes. He takes photos of the region and its visitors with his St Bernard dog in tow. Augustinian monks at the nearby Great St Bernard Hospice are credited with developing the breed. Originally used to guard the hospice, the dogs went on to become mountain rescue assistants and an icon of the Valais region.
