Imagine if you hadn’t been out of your home for five years
Dogs for Good makes life-changing differences for people with disabilities, enabling greater independence and reducing social isolation
Most of us now know what it’s like to not be able to leave our homes. But imagine if you hadn’t done so for five years. Imagine if everyday tasks were so challenging that they affected your quality of life and knocked your confidence. For many of the 1.3m people living with a disability in the UK today, that is their reality. In fact, over a quarter of disabled people in the UK say they feel they don’t have choice or control over their daily lives. For thirty years, Dogs for Good has
been using its knowledge and expe- rience to bring people with disabili- ties and dogs together to make life- changing differences. Trough the power of dogs, the charity supports people with autism, physical disa- bilities, learning disabilities and dementia, enabling them to live more independent lives. Whether the charity is providing a life-changing assistance dog, working with specially trained
dogs “I felt lonely and
isolated because I couldn’t safely get
outdoors on my own.” alongside
therapists to provide a specific intervention, or giving families with an autistic child advice and training to enable a dog to help them, its philos- ophy remains the same — a better understanding of dogs creates a stronger
bond and relationship.
