Tradition & transformation Overlooking Traunkirchen’s main square stands Hotel Post am See, a property whose story spans nearly seven centuries. Once a monastic tavern, the hotel was reinterpreted in 2024 through a bold architectural project by Arkan Zeytinoglu Architects and Hinterwirth Architects. The original structure includes a reception area, the Belétage bar and restaurant and the historic Poststube 1327 restaurant. Alongside it, the modern Freigeist wing houses 40 rooms and suites, a Rooftop BergSPA and a Relax & Glow lounge. This duality reflects the ethos of the Gröller
family, who have run the hotel for three generations. Their approach balances heritage with a cosmopolitan outlook, creating a hotel that’s
both traditional and modern. Across 61 rooms and suites, interiors feature Viennese cane furniture, hand-knotted rugs, violet-hued chandeliers and bespoke details. Each frames mountain or lake views, keeping the landscape central.
Culinary universe Culinary culture is a defining element of both the hotel and the wider region. Executive chef Lukas Nagl — whose restaurant Bootshaus at Das Traunsee has garnered a Michelin star, a Green star and four Gault-Millau toques — defines the philsophy. His approach embraces complete product use, from lake fish to seasonal produce sourced through long-standing partnerships with regional farmers and artisans. Even fish bones find a second life as an artisanal fish sauce, created in collaboration with LUVI Fermente, a process that embodies both sustainability and creativity. There are three dining venues.
