Tucked away in a private reserve spanning over 27,000 acres of pristine rainforest, Cristalino Lodge offers a rare opportunity to experience the southern Brazilian Amazon in comfort and seclusion. Located in northern Mato Grosso, the lodge


sits within a region of the Amazon known for its towering, lush terra firme forest. Its unique position near two other major biomes — the Pantanal and the Cerrado — contributes to exceptional biodiversity. More than 600 bird species have been recorded in the reserve, including the harpy eagle, zigzag heron, Amazonian umbrellabird and dazzling cotingas such as the pompadour. The forest is also home to eight species of monkeys, among them the endemic white-whiskered spider monkey, Spix’s red-handed howler and the charismatic white-nosed saki. Guests can explore this remarkable environment


from two 164ft canopy towers that provide sweeping views at sunrise and sunset. Around 19 miles of forest trails traverse diverse habitats — including evergreen and deciduous forest — offering close encounters with centuries-old trees and rare wildlife. Canoe excursions along


the Cristalino River, a mirror-like blackwater tributary, reveal serene landscapes. All activities are conducted in small groups of up to eight guests, led by expert naturalist guides. Wildlife sightings at the river often include the Brazilian tapir, neotropical otter and the elusive giant river otter. Designed with architectural elegance and


environmental sensitivity, the accommodation features natural wood, panoramic windows and Brazilian-crafted furnishings. Guests can unwind in inviting common areas, including a bar with an open fire and forest views, a cosy reading lounge and a candlelit restaurant offering a la carte Amazonian cuisine prepared with organic ingredients from the lodge’s own garden.
