PAID CONTENT FOR PONANT

Le Commandant-Charcot CRUISE

French cruise company Ponant has devised the cruise of tomorrow with its stunning new ship Le Commandant-Charcot. The first PC2- class luxury polar cruise ship capable of sailing into the ice is the latest addition to the fleet and enables passengers to follow in the footsteps of the great polar explorers while enjoying refined surroundings and luxury services in the furthest reaches of the southern and northern hemispheres. Destinations including the North Pole and the Ross Sea are now within reach of Ponant guests. First broached as late as 1820, the icy expanses

of Western and Eastern Antarctica are home to spectacular mountainous landscapes, imposing icebergs, vast penguin colonies and exceptional marine wildlife such as fur seals albatrosses, elephant seals, orcas and whales. In the Arctic, passengers can revel in the

primeval beauty of the landscapes, observing the spectacular wildlife and meeting the indigenous Inuit people. There are 135 suites and state rooms on board, each with a private balcony or terrace.

At the rear of decks six and seven are four split- level suites with private terraces and whirlpool baths. The Suite de l’Armateur (owner’s suite) on deck eight has wide sliding glass doors offering panoramic views and a private terrace. Common areas include an indoor swimming

pool, conservatory, panoramic restaurant, Blue Lagoon outdoor restaurant, main lounge, observation lounge and lobby. All are designed to convey discreet French-style luxury, let in natural light and showcase the extraordinary polar scenery to full effect. With its daring design, Le Commandant-

Charcot opens a new chapter in the history of sailing. Propelled by electricity and engines running on liquefied natural gas, it’s fitted with the latest environmental protection technolog to limit fine particle emissions. This pioneering hybrid electric polar exploration ship is designed with the greatest attention to detail in terms of safety and respect for the environment. This major innovation is a mark of Ponant’s commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism.

Don’t miss A chance to explore areas that few people have visited on the 14-day Antarctica Expedition or 16-day expedition cruise to the North Pole
