in Sicily between the 16th and 18th centuries, when Spain granted a license for resettlement to the nobility of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Big farms, the size of small villages, were often inhabited by landowners and farmworkers alike. Masseria della Volpe estate is a late-19th-
century masseria that was originally dedicated to the cultivation of olives and citrus fruit. It’s now been turned into a luxury boutique hotel, a sophisticated modern resort that combines exclusive high-end hospitality with an eco- sustainable philosophy. The restoration project was carried out with
the greatest respect for the building’s original features and has maintained its enduring connection with the Val di Noto countryside.
Here, the aspiration of eco-organic sustainability isn’t a fad — it’s a committed mission that includes guests who want to respect the balance between the land and the needs of people. This ‘rural chic’ approach is underpinned
by a sustainable eco philosophy that’s part of every aspect of its management. The hotel has drastically reduced its use of plastic, reuses rainwater for irrigation and produces a large proportion of its own energ — much of this comes from the solar panels covering the roof of the hotel’s car park. Visitors will be enchanted by the gardens that
are dotted with olive, citrus and carob trees, a verdant park and the magnificent view of the Val di Noto. All treatments in the Wellness Centre harness
the beneficial properties of organic natural extracts, as do the soaps and cleaning products used in the hotel. The Turkish hammam, salt sauna, hydro massage and ice fountain are among the treatments on offer, and are designed to help guests rediscover their inner harmony.
