LONDON’S LUXURY SPAS

Explore the capital’s latest wellness offerings, with tech-led treatments, top therapists and a heightened focus on personal programming. Words: Kerry Walker

Gone are the days when bigger meant better in the spa world. Today, it’s all about tailoring; creating a wellness experience that’s specific to guests’ needs, whether that be cellular therapy, body sculpting, biohacking or just a stop-the-clock moment of relaxation. Health-focused travellers are setting their sights on the British capital, with a raft of luxurious new spas offering results- driven treatment programmes and carefully choreographed teams of medical experts — from naturopaths to clinical psychologists, sleep specialists, reiki teachers and personal trainers.

TECH-LED TREATMENTS Surrenne at The Emory Soaring above Hyde Park, with minimalist interiors and skyline views, The Emory — a striking new all-suite hotel in Belgravia — has sent ripples of excitement through London’s luxe hotel scene. But making the biggest splash is its four-floor private members’ club, Surrenne, to which guests get exclusive access. Designed by French interior designer Rémi Tessier, the spa focuses on longevity, the buzzword of the year in the wellness world. Surrenne’s team of biologists, nutritionists, osteopaths, psychologists and PTs (including Gwyneth Paltrow’s guru Tracy Anderson) fine-tune health at an ultra-personalised level. Treatments have been crafted by world-renowned doctors like Dr David Sinclair, known for his research on ageing and epigenetics. Guests can book in for a full body assessment before choosing which wellness path to pursue, from microbiome mapping and epigenetic testing to a hyperbaric oxygen therapy. If you simply want to rest, you’ll find a gorgeous space to do so, with a sauna, herb-scented steam room and skylit, gold-hued pool. Opened April 2024, surrenne.com the-emory.co.uk

A NATURAL APPROACH The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London Right on Hanover Square and in one of London’s most desirable postcodes, the intimate spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London has received rave reviews since opening in June 2024. Its soul-

soothing design incorporates nature and art, using earthy materials like wood, marble and bronze, and lighting resembling water droplets. Step into this subterranean sanctuary to find a beautifully lit 80ft pool, sauna, steam rooms and vitality pools. The wellness programme is broad and holistic, moving from reiki to naturopathy, and from acupuncture to sound therapy. Clinique La Prairie’s one-on-one consultations integrate nutritional coaching and health nutraceuticals to focus on cell detoxification for patrons, while those seeking stress release can opt for a personalised sleep programme or a guided meditation and rhythmical massage. Signature treatments include Oriental Qi — nodding to meridian-channelling Chinese medicine — CBD massage and age-defying, collagen-boosting facials. Opened June 2024, mandarinoriental.com

GET CREATIVE Six Senses London Few openings are as widely anticipated as the Six Senses hotel and spa, a brand renowned for creating some of the most refined holistic hideaways across the globe. Coming to The Whiteley London in 2025, in a revamped art deco emporium on Queensway in Bayswater, the spa will feature a 3,500sq ft fitness area, a 65ft indoor pool and a relaxation room with vaulted ceilings. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A skilled team of therapists, yoga teachers, fitness trainers, osteopaths, ayurvedic doctors, Chinese medicine experts, spiritual healers and aura readers have been brought on board to create a multi-layered wellness approach. Aside from offering personalised programmes on weight management, stress alleviation and sleep health, guests will learn to harness the power of herbs at the Alchemy Bar. Spa therapists will talk through locally sourced ingredients in a private workshop, creating body scrubs, hair masks and face masks. What really sets the Six Senses London apart, however, is the unique bowl ritual — a soothing sound therapy designed to cleanse the mind — practised at the start and end of all treatments. Opening in Spring 2025, sixsenses.com
