PAID CONTENT FOR CANNÚA

Cannúa ANTIOQUIA, COLOMBIA

Created using permaculture principles, built primarily from over 105,000 compressed earth bricks produced on site, and using a water management system that reduces guests’ water footprint by over 90%, Cannúa has become a refuge for wildlife in the area and an exclusive escape for travellers looking to experience the genuine charm of Colombia’s Central Andes mountains. Located on a mountainside site, Cannúa has

reforested nearly 100,000sq meters of its north- Andean cloud forest. The 18-room resort, situated near the town of Marinilla, Antioquia, lies about one-and-a-half hours from Medellín and 50 minutes from José María Córdova International Airport. The property provides a haven for over 100 bird species, many of which are endemic and rare. Travellers commonly pass by Cannúa on their

way to the popular destination of Guatape (about 40 minutes away), and often miss out on the magic of Marinilla, one of the oldest municipalities in Colombia and one of only three existing towns in Antioquia founded by the Spanish crown. Today, Marinilla is known for its local breads and foods

made out of capio corn, a rare variety that often has only one yield per year. In addition, Marinilla is one of the most diverse and important food producing municipalities in the world. This is particularly strategic for Cannúa, as the

lodge’s restaurant was a finalist for the best fine dining in Colombia. The kitchen, led by executive chef Marconi Righi, an alum of Michel Bras, primarily uses produce grown on-site in the hotel’s multiple gardens. The restaurant’s inventive dishes are distinctly Colombian in their ingredients and inspiration, but world-class in flavour. Travellers can enjoy a host of experiences at

Cannúa. On-site or nearby activities include a permaculture and gardens walk (included in every reservation), a sunset hike on the property’s indigenous trail, coffee workshops, rum or chocolate tastings, bird-watching, Colombian cheesemaking classes, or a historic and food tour in the nearby village. The hotel also features an on-site spa with relaxing massages. In the region, guests can visit a cacao farm, go whitewater rafting or paragliding, or visit the nearby town of Guatape.
