Chișinău CHIȘINĂU, MOLDOVA
History and modernity coexist in Moldova’s capital Chișinău. Located at the crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe, Chișinău’s journey through time is written in its architecture — a blend of old-world elegance and contemporary design. Beyond the sights, Chișinău’s true allure lies in its people. The locals, with their warmth and hospitality, add a welcoming touch to the city’s ambiance. Chișinău has a diverse culinary scene,
offering traditional Moldovan dishes as well as international flavours. Traditional Moldovan dishes include sarmale (cabbage or vine leaves filled with rice, vegetables and meat, served hot with sour cream and pickles); plăcintă (stuffed pastries with various fillings, ranging from savoury meat and potatoes to sweet fruits); zeama (chicken soup with noodles and lovage); and a variety of traditional desserts such as Cușma lui Guguță (a cake made from crepes), plums stuffed with walnuts and whipped cream, and apple, cherry and pumpkin pies. Wine plays a big role in Moldovan culture and traditions, and as the capital of the wine-producing
country, Chișinău offers a vibrant wine scene with numerous wine bars, tasting rooms and shops. Visitors have the opportunity to sample wines from both well-established wineries and emerging artisan producers. While Moldovan wineries are renowned for their international varietals like Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, travellers should also try local varieties such as Feteasca Albă, Feteasca Regală, Feteasca Neagră and Rară Neagră for a unique tasting experience. Cricova and Mileștii Mici, near Chișinău, present two of the largest underground wine cellars in the world. Chișinău is a particularly green city, with a
variety of beautiful parks. Central Park’s French- inspired design is adorned with flower gardens, willow trees and literary busts. The Valley of the Mills Park includes an artificial lake and a cascading water staircase, perfect for kayaking, cycling or enjoying a leisurely stroll. Dendrarium Park features an amazing array of flora from around the world, while Rose Valley Park offers natural lakes, rose gardens and paddle-boat rides.
