Curaçao Tourist Board CURAÇAO
When envisioning a Caribbean getaway, a very general idea of ‘sun, sand and sea’ may come to mind. But when it comes to Curaçao, travellers are in for far more than they could possibly imagine. Nestled in the southern Caribbean, this island gem welcomes travellers with the warmest embrace and vibe quite unlike any other. While idyllic views and beach days are a staple,
Curaçao is more than just its beautiful blue waters and stunning beaches, although you do have more than 35 to enjoy. This vibrant destination is full of personality, steeped in history and filled with a beautifully diverse community of over 55 nationalities. There are even four languages spoken: Papiamento, Dutch, Spanish and English. This incredible melting pot of culture has created a unique blend of European flair and Caribbean soul that can be felt in every corner of the island, from the architecture and cuisine to the local music and art scene. The island’s personality especially shines within its capital city of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, visitors can soak in the island’s rich history with a trip to a museum,
enjoy a guided walking tour and take in the iconic Handelskade (a picturesque waterfront strip), eat an array of local and international cuisines in sidewalk cafes, beach bars and food trucks or simply gaze at the many colourful murals that line the streets. For an authentic local bite, visit the Plasa Bieu food market in the centre of Willemstad. Every neighbourhood offers something new to discover. The island’s diversity doesn’t stop at its culture;
it also extends to the plethora of activities, which are available for every kind of traveller. For example, water-lovers can fill their days with scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, jet skiing, boat trips and more. The Superior Producer is a popular advanced dive spot for those looking to see a sunken underwater ship covered in corals. Back on dry land, guests can indulge in spas, biking, an aquarium, golf courses, casinos, lounges and more. There’s always exciting events to look forward to as well, like Carnival, the Kaya Kaya Festival and the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival. It’s an island that awaits discovery.
