For parents of very young children, choosing a school can feel like an overwhelming responsibility. Parents considering an independ- ent education are contemplating such a significant investment: not just into hoped-for future success, but into lives for their children that are happy, purposeful and full of meaning. Even in the early years of prep
school, questions about senior school entrance tests, public exam- inations, academic pace and long- term outcomes already loom large — particularly for families navigat- ing the English education system for the first time. Tomas’s recognises
these challenges and addresses them directly, clearly and confidently. Tomas’s was founded to make a
positive change in education in 1971 and today educates more than 2,000 children, aged between three and 18, at Tomas’s College in Richmond, and at its four prep schools in Bat- tersea, Clapham, Fulham and Kens- ington. It’s highly experienced in preparing children for the demands of selective senior schools and, at Tomas’s College, for public exami- nations and university entrance. Teaching is purposeful and am-

proach challenges with confidence. As a result, they’re exceptionally well prepared for what comes next. Its prep school leavers’ lists con- sistently include the most compet- itive schools in the country. Across the prep schools, pupils gained 132 senior school scholarships last year across all areas of the curriculum. Tomas’s core belief is that such
academic preparation is only part of a more important task. Its deeper responsibility is to champion the joy of childhood, equip children with inner strength and enable them to achieve long-term happiness, adapt- ability and fulfilment. At the heart of a Tomas’s edu-
cation is the conviction that chil- dren thrive when academic rigour is balanced with kindness, com- munity and experiences that lead to lifelong passions. Sport, music, drama, creative subjects and oppor- tunities to serve others are integral to school life. Each school offers more than 200
sports fixtures every term across the major sports of netball, hockey, foot- ball, rugby and cricket, as well as a remarkable range of minor sports. Opportunities are for all, from inclu- sive participation through to county and national level, including recent tours to Spain and Barbados. In the past two years, Tomas’s
choristers have toured in Vienna and Prague, been finalists at the Na-
tional Choir Competition at the Bir- mingham Symphony Hall and sung at carol services for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Trinity Hospice and the Daisy Trust. In the junior years, every child
performs in a year group drama production every year. In 2024, 262 pupils performed in Te Evolution of Dance at Cadogan Hall. In 2025, Tomas’s senior dancers won the ISA Dance Competition. Outdoor educa- tion begins in Reception and leads to Tomas’s Daheim, the school’s out- door centre in Austria. Such experi- ences help children to discover their strengths and build their confidence. Tey learn to aim high without losing perspective, to succeed without en- titlement, and to approach achieve- ment and adversity with integrity.
Tomas’s message to parents is
one of reassurance. Te school pre- pares children superbly for exams. But more importantly, it helps them to grow into confident, capable and compassionate
young adults. It
doesn’t see these goals as competing priorities. On the contrary, it believes that a broad, values-led education is the surest route to lasting academic success — and to a life well-lived.
