Te Modern Family Education & Schooling
Promotional Content • Saturday 7th February 2026 Where creativity meets wellbeing
With one in five children and young people in England affected by a probable mental disorder in 2023, families and schools are increasingly asking the same question: how can we best support children’s emotional wellbeing?1
Melva is an award-winning digital wellbeing programme gaining nation- al recognition for its innovative ap- proach to wellbeing education2
. Developed as a comprehensive
whole-school approach, Melva offers expert-designed resources that help support the social, emotional and educational needs of children and young people, empowering educators and families to nurture mental health with confidence. Central to the programme is Melva Mapletree, a playful, relatable char-
acter who helps children explore anx- iety, grief, friendship challenges and self-confidence. For families, Melva appears in the new illustrated novel, Melva Mapletree and the Great Undo- ing, available on Amazon. Designed for pre-teen readers aged eight to 13, the story follows Melva as she navigates friendships, changes and tricky emo- tions with humour and heart, helping children understand and talk about their feelings. Melva uses storytelling, games, animation and
practical activities
to build emotional literacy, resil- ience and self-management. Te pro- gramme grows with pupils from Key Stage 1 to Year 6, creating a shared language for feelings and nurtur- ing empathy and problem-solving. Teachers are supported through
curriculum-linked lesson plans, train- ing and evaluation tools that enable PSHE to be delivered in ways that are creative, fun and distinct from typi- cal lessons while remaining straight- forward to put into practice. Schools report stronger pupil engagement, improved emotional vocabulary and positive wellbeing outcomes. As one primary school teacher shares, “Te programme is engaging to all, easy to use by the teacher and a lovely take on how PSHE should be shared in schools.” Co-designed with teachers, mental
health professionals, parents and chil- dren, Melva demonstrates how well- being education can be both rigorous and enjoyable, supporting children’s mental health not just at school, but as part of family life too.

The Mount School York is first choice for academic success, vibrant co-curricular activities and happy pupils
Te Good Schools Guide sums up Te Mount School York, day and board- ing school, best — ‘A place of calm compassion in the heart of the city.’ A happy Quaker school, pupils strive for personal excellence and make a posi- tive contribution to their world. With the highest A-Level results
in York, Te Mount was proudly ranked in Te Sunday Times’ Top 10 Independent Schools (North) for Academic Excellence 2025. Te co-educational prep school
sparks children’s natural curiosity, while the all-girls’ senior school and sixth form empower teenage girls to thrive. Founded in 1785, Te Mount remains at the forefront of girls’ education. Head Anna Wilby says, “In an all-
girls’ setting, pupils feel more comfort- able speaking up, trying new things and pushing themselves academical- ly, especially in subjects where girls are still underrepresented nationally, such as physics, computer science and economics. At Te Mount, there’s no pressure to hold back, no fear of judge- ment, just space to grow. Our teaching is tailored to how girls learn best, en- couraging not only knowledge but in- dependence and self-belief.”
Open Day: Saturday 7 March 2026.

turing skills for the future — critical thinking,
Anna adds, “We also believe in nur- creativity,
collaboration,
digital literacy and emotional intelli- gence, which are all key to unlocking opportunity in a world that’s global, fast-paced and constantly evolving.” To align with these STEM aims,
Anna recently appointed AI expert, Dr Beth Lane, to lead computer science at Te Mount. She’s previously taught computing in all-girls’ independent schools in London, alongside running her own digital enterprise, Te Insti- tute of AI Education. Guided by Quaker values, Te
Mount provides a compassionate ethos where pupils are instilled with confidence in their own voice and empowered to become ambitious, questioning global citizens driven by conscience. Anna continues, “Te Mount is
an oasis in the city. Our academic successes
and diverse co-curricu-
lar activities make us first-choice locally, and for boarders across the UK and overseas.” A Year 8 student said, “Te Mount empowers you to be your best!”
