e’re holding our breath for a frozen feast this winter. But whatever the weather gods have in store, make sure your skills are sharp with our winter lectures, supported by Lowe Alpine. In these popular skills sessions, you’ll learn how to go from winter zero to mountain hero, thanks to expert winter instructors Sam Leary and Mick Jones. The talks kick off in the YHA at Pen y Pass on Tuesday 21 November and run through to Bristol on 30 November. Tickets £7 for BMC members / £9 for non-members.

Winter Conditions in Wales and Lakes Don’t miss out on primo winter conditions by checking them live from your couch
@Get live winter temperatures direct from Cwm Idwal in North Wales and Great End in the Lake District. The BMC Winter Climbing Information Project will return again this
year, bringing you live temperature data from the air and from the ground. See if the turf is fully frozen yet and how deep the frozen layer goes! Make informed decisions before heading out on whether winter routes are in condition and help minimise potential damage to rare plant species. This part BMC-funded information service is live again ready for the winter climbing season!
This year’s competition season has been fantastic and the highlights were the incredible British Bouldering, Lead and Speed Championships. Running all the BMC competitions is a huge task, and we’d like to thank Rob Adie, former BMC competitions officer, for all his hard work over the years creating these incredible events. We wish him the very best of luck for his new job in Switzerland!

NEW: BMC TV Winter skills series
Last winter wasn’t the best for winter climbing conditions, but our intrepid BMC TV crew managed to head out with the Association of Mountaineering Instructors to film a fourth series of our ever- popular winter skills films. This series, starring Heather Morning from Mountaineering Scotland, explores the skills and challenges you’ll face on grade III and above winter routes. Look out for them on our social media.
