organisational review? Climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are changing, and the BMC needs to adapt to meet future challenges. The fully independent Organisational Review Group was formed in May to review the BMC’s organisation, governance, and decision-making structures in order that they may reflect current best practice in sector governance whilst continuing to act in the best interests of the membership. The review group presented their initial recommendations on Saturday 18 November at Kendal Mountain Festival. Now you can read the report online and send in your feedback.

What’s the next step?

After reading the report, your next step is to give feedback, either online (www.thebmc.co.uk/org) or at your local BMC area meeting. The member consultation period runs until 22 December, and then final recommendations will voted on at the 2018 AGM on Saturday 28 April 2018.

Please do take the time to get involved and have your say in the future of the BMC. As Ray Wigglesworth comments: “We believe that we have conducted the process objectively, dispassionately and independently. We also believe that if the members adopt our proposals then the BMC will have a bright future.”
