“One of the BMC’s greatest strengths is the partnership between staff and volunteers. Supporting our volunteers is one of our core priorities. Our network of Area Meetings provides a structure for members to engage in a wide range of activities, including resolving access issues, organising grass roots events, and liaising with local mountaineering clubs. To get involved check out the BMC website and come along to your next local BMC Area Meeting.” Dave Turnbull, BMC CEO

Bolts, wind farms, footpath erosion, crag clean-ups, access issues, dry tooling. If you’d like to make your voice heard, then come along to your next BMC Area Meeting. Each BMC Area holds four or five meetings a year.

Why go to Area Meetings?

Area meetings provide an opportunity for you to discuss issues and influence decisions affecting climbers and walkers locally and nationally. In doing so they form a vital part of the BMC’s democratic structure. They also act as a focal point for organising local volunteer-led events including crag clean-ups, hill walks and litter picks, as well as climbing and walking festivals. Attending Area Meetings is one of the main ways you can get involved in our work. We also aim to make the meetings enjoyable social occasions, laying on some free food and sometimes a guest speaker or film screening. They are run by volunteers.
