Climbing qualifications Indoor Climbing Assistant
Designed for people who want to support qualified instructors with climbing sessions on artificial structures, for example parents, volunteers, youth workers, young leaders or teachers.
Climbing Wall Instructor
Ideal for climbing wall staff and others who want to take groups of people climbing on artificial walls and towers. It’s all about introducing the basics and running safe, engaging sessions.
Climbing Wall Development Instructor This covers the skills required to develop climbers beyond the basic skills, including teaching lead climbing on indoor or outdoor artificial climbing walls and structures with fixed protection. The Climbing Wall Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications are a prerequisite.
Foundation Coach
Coaching the fundamental movement skills of climbing, with a focus on facilitating a group of individuals to climb well.
Development Coach
This builds on existing coaching skills and covers how to deliver ‘climber centred coaching’ to individuals as part of a group.
Rock Climbing Instructor Designed for people who want to run safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags and artificial structures.
Rock Climbing Development Instructor This qualification is all about developing a participant’s rock climbing proficiency which may involve teaching them to lead climb on single pitch crags. The Rock Climbing Instructor qualification is a prerequisite.
Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor
This qualification covers the skills required for instructing all aspects of mountaineering in the UK, including scrambling and the coaching of multi-pitch lead climbing. As it is a mountain-based skill set, the Mountain Leader qualification is a prerequisite.
Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor
The highest level of qualification awarded by Mountain Training, this builds on the skills acquired through the Winter Mountain Leader and Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor qualifications to cover all aspects of winter mountaineering, snow, ice and mixed climbing in the UK.
