Glen Brittle Memorial Hut Glen Brittle, Grid Ref: 412 216


The Glen Brittle Memorial Hut is superbly located on the edge of the Cuillin on the island of Skye. The hut is also a war memorial built to commemorate those moun-taineers who lost their lives in service during wartime. The hut has spaces for 18 people and includes a kitchen showers and drying room. Jointly owned by the BMC and Mountaineering Scotland, it’s administered by a management trust which reports to both councils.

You can check availability and make bookings online. Bookings can be made up to a year in advance, which may be necessary to grab places on the most sought- after weekends, but places are often still available during quieter periods and especially during the week.

North Ballachulish, Grid Ref: 044 612 This one stands at North Ballachulish, between Glencoe and Fort William in the Western Highlands. It’s an ideal base for exploring Ben Nevis and Glencoe. The hut can accommodate sixteen people in five different bedrooms. Facilities include a well-equipped kitchen, drying room and car park. This National Hut is jointly owned by the BMC and Mountaineering Scotland and is run by a management committee of volunteers which reports to trustees from both organisations.


The hut is open all year round and is wardened from April - October. It can be booked by Individual and Club members of both the BMC and Mountaineering Scot-land. For bookings and to check for vacancies go the the hut website: www.gbmh.co.uk
