TOYOTA CONNECT
ART ON WHEELS Toyota believes in sharing dreams and
ideas and since 2004, the company has called on kids around the world to use their imagination in sharing ideas about the future of mobility in the Dream Car Art Contest, one of the largest global art contests for children. The South African winners were recently announced and awarded their prizes by Glenn Crompton, Vice- President: Marketing Toyota SA.

KUILSRIVIER GETS A HINO UPGRADE Hino Kuilsrivier has completed a R23 million revamp of its premises in the Western Cape to
improve customer satisfaction. The flagship facility in a busy industrial area was re-opened by Ernie Trautmann, Vice-President of Hino SA, who described the large investment as a vote of confidence in the Hino brand by Barloworld, which owns the dealership.
The refit has created nine work bays instead of three, two of them fitted with pits, while a large Parts Department was added to serve as a distribution centre for other Barloworld dealers.
Servicing hours have been extended and include night servicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The overhaul is part of Hino’s Vision 2020, which aims to make Hino the top-selling truck brand in SA, says Trautmann.
WINNING PERFORMANCE Congratulations to Tyrone Pillay on
yet another achievement! The South African Paralympian, bronze medallist at the Rio Paralympics 2016 and gold medallist at the 2017 SA Champs was recently invited to Japan to receive the Toyota Global President’s Award. Toyota Motor Company President and CEO Akio Toyoda presented Tyrone with the award – the first time it’s been given to an individual outside Japan. The award celebrates “teamwork
and togetherness” in sport in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Games, of which Toyota is an official sponsor. Good luck for the World Champs in July, Tyrone!
MANUFACTURING A
TOURIST ATTRACTION An unusual tourist attraction is being planned for Toyota’s Blue Springs manufacturing plant in Mississippi, USA, in the form of a $10 million visitor centre. The centre will offer guided tours of the plant, where 2 000 workers produce Corollas. Displays in the interactive
visitor centre will tell the story of the Corolla’s rise to becoming the world’s best-selling car and will explore the history of the company. The Mississippi plant opened a
decade ago and later this year will produce its one-millionth Corolla.
