Inside ICI Business and Leadership Development
Conference 2022 by Joseph E. Fritz, Executive Director
I
t seems that all the buzz lately is about the World Conference, but that is not all that we are actively working
on. As I write this, the 20th Investment Casting Specialist Certification Course is just wrapping up its first day, Barbara Tiseo is working on venue selections for future events, Erin Almaleh is working closely with our software developers to enhance your experience on our Members-Only website, Margureta Watson is keeping our accounts on the straight and narrow, and Nora D’Ambra has her hands full keeping me on target with everything that we are doing. Needless to say, we have a few balls in the air, two of which are big.
Clearly the biggest ball is the
15th WCIC, but I prefer to turn your attentions to the second largest ball, the Business and Leadership Development Conference (BLDC). Held in beautiful Scottsdale Arizona at the Hotel Valley Ho from October 2 through October 5, this event promises to be one that all future BLDCs will be measured.
The Venue The Hotel Valley Ho is a mid-century modern oasis. There you can relax in the shade of a palm tree or in a poolside cabana while enjoying an expertly crafted cocktail. If lounging by the pool is not your style, check out the hotel’s fitness center, which is open 24/7 and complete with free weights, high-tech circuit machines, Peloton bikes and private TVs. When it comes to dining, the hotel’s
restaurant is a personal favorite. Offering a diverse variety of small plates to full meals throughout the day, ZUZU is best known for its deserts and specialty milk shakes. Though dining at ZUZU may be
tempting, you’ll want to leave plenty of room for the receptions that Barbara is planning for you atop the hotel’s main tower. There you will not only have

some outstanding cuisine, but you will be afforded a 360˚ view of the Valley of the Sun at the best time to view it, sunset. The Hotel Valley Ho is conveniently located only 15 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, and is situated at the southwest corner of Old Town Scottsdale. Once known for being the gathering place for wranglers and cow hands, Old Town offers visitors an outstanding night life, a diverse variety of restaurants, art galleries, shops and local entertainment. For those interested in learning about the cowboy heritage of the area, the Museum of the Southwest is minutes from the hotel, and well worth a visit.
The Program Though we are still finalizing the agenda, I can share some of the highlights of this year’s conference. Steve Goreham, Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America, will open our event with a discussion on “Resources and Energy: Alternate Futures”. Brian Sommers, President of TechVentive, Inc., will be
discussing Industry 4.0, its benefits and application in the investment casting industry. Josh Tan, Founder and CEO of
Alchemist Consulting LLC, will
address how members can structure their businesses for maximum efficiency and maximum valuation. We will also be addressing updates on the market, economy and labor law developments. We will be publishing a full agenda in the coming weeks, as well as the details of some of our offsite events.
Special Invitations Event delegate are being offered the opportunity to take a tour of Dolphin, Inc., an ICI Member Foundry located in Phoenix, as well as a tour of Luke Air Force Base. The Dolphin tour will be offered on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 4, and the Luke AFB tour will be offered on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 5. If you are interested in attending the
Air Force Base Tour, and are not a US Citizen, please contact Barbara Tiseo immediately. The ICI needs to provide the Air Force with your credentials by August to obtain clearance for the tour.
