better idea — because they just might. Notify before implementing — make
sure everyone knows that the change is coming, when it is set to begin, and what their part will be. If at all pos- sible, don’t announce the change one day and implement it the next. Try to have several days between announce- ment and implementation. This will give the change some time to ‘soak in’ and will make sure that the people who are off-shift are made aware of the change before it happens. Accentuate the positive – make sure that employees know the overall goal of the change and “What’s in it for them.” If one particular group or department inherits a ‘downside’ because of the change, make sure to point out the ‘upside.’ If the change goes too smoothly, you might want to worry. With changes come challenges. If you are not at least a little bit worried, it is an indicator that you do not fully understand the situa- tion. Seek out the problems (there will be problems) and deal with them. To put it more simply, don’t be happy and con- tent because there are no bears in the woods. Instead, worry about whatever it was that scared off the bears.
