LOOKING BACK TO CONTINUE FORWARD


AS WE ARE CLOSING OUT THE LAST ISSUE OF 2017, WE ARE ENTERING OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF PUBLISHING D.O.M. MAGAZINE. TIME HAS FLOWN BY THESE PAST 10 YEARS. IN THE SPIRIT OF THE EVE OF OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY, I WANTED TO SHARE SOME OF WHAT I WROTE IN MY FIRST EDITORIAL COLUMN FOR D.O.M. MAGAZINE:


Welcome to the premier issue of D.O.M. (Director of Maintenance) — a new magazine for aircraft maintenance managers as well as those wanting to move up the aircraft maintenance career ladder. Based on personal experience, as well as

conversations with hundreds of fellow A&Ps and IAs I have met over the years, DOMs and other maintenance supervisors are often not prepared to be eff ective managers ad leaders when they are promoted from the hangar fl oor. Aircraft mechanics are often selected for promotion based on their top- notch maintenance skills. But the skills that make someone a great mechanic aren’t the skills that he or she needs to be a great manager or supervisor. Companies often lose two employees when promoting a mechanic to a supervisor. They lose one of the best mechanics on the hangar fl oor, and they now have a manager who doesn’t have the skills or knowledge he or she needs to succeed in his or her new role. We want to change that. D.O.M. wants to help make our readers better business leaders and managers. Six times a year, D.O.M. will deliver targeted editorial to help them be more successful in their jobs. Directors of maintenance, VPs of maintenance, supervisors, quality assurance managers and inspectors, and mechanics wanting to move up in their company will all benefi t from the editorial D.O.M. magazine will provide. We will deliver articles on a wide variety of topics such as business, regulatory, fi nancial, professional development and quality assurance. D.O.M.will also off er industry news and new product information. We will also feature a reader profi le in each

issue. You can learn what some of your peers are doing in their companies. The reader profi le will give insight on management success, overcoming obstacles in the workplace, and what it takes to succeed in the business of aircraft maintenance. We want you to tell us what you would like to read about in the pages of the magazine. We need you to tell us what emerging trends you would like to learn about. What are the critical issues that are important to you? Tell us what you like about the magazine, and what you would like to see more of.
