PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

4. Have equivalent civilian or military experience

Through the ease of an online

setting, employees who thought fi nding time to earn a bachelor’s degree, let alone one from a well recognized aviation program in a university setting, was too time consuming or cumbersome because of confl icting work schedules or proximity to a university, now have a real possibility to earn a bachelor’s degree. With this degree, opportunities for advancement can be opened up to the employee within companies that may have never been available to them before. Currently, the following courses are

off ered in the Aviation Maintenance Management Online specialization: - AVT 329 Avionics Communication and Navigation Systems Transition

- AVT 370 Reliability, Maintainability and Fault Prediction Analysis

- AVT 475 Aerospace Lean Manufacturing and Maintenance Practices

- AVT 478 Aerospace Business and Industry Financial Practices

- AVT 380 Aerospace Supply Chain Logistics

- AVT 485 Aviation Maintenance Shop Operations

- AVT 488 Advanced Aviation Safety Procedures

- AVT 390 Management Information Systems for Aerospace Applications

- IMAE 470A Sigma Six Green Belt

- IMAE 450 Project Management or TRM 470 Project Management

- AVT 319/320 Aviation Technologies Internship/ Cooperative Experience

- or AVT 358 Aviation Technology Work Experience

Figure 1 Currently, the online courses are

off ered through the online learning management system (LMS) called Desire2Learn or D2L that can be accessed anywhere an internet connection can be made. Aspects of this LMS can be accessed/utilized through mobile apps as well as the formal online setting. A screen shot of the typical course layout from one of the course can be seen in fi gure 1. Once enrolling in the online

degree completion program, the coursework, depending on quantity of courses taken, could be completed in as little as one year. Typically it will take longer based on work and course load for the individual but a short track is possible. This online degree completion

degree looks to fi ll a need to bring current technicians and employees

up to speed with relevant aerospace training and education in an online environment that they feel they can achieve their goal to earn a bachelor’s degree, but from their home or offi ce computer. Schedules and proximity to a university are no longer a factor or reason to not take their training to the next level.
