line’s international sales vice-president Nico Bleichrodt saying the brand was in “a good place”. Amadeus River Cruises’ UK general sales agent issued a

warning about the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on river sales as the family-owned line christened its 14th vessel in Cologne. And just weeks later, river lines showed their nous and fortitude as they battled low water levels amid soaring temperatures across Europe. Silversea Cruises – part of the Royal Caribbean

Group – acquired Crystal Cruises’ expedition vessel for $275 million and immediately announced plans to launch it in Antarctica. Crystal Cruises under its former ownership shut its

US office in February in the wake of financially troubled owner Genting Hong Kong filing for closure. A&K Travel Group confirmed the acquisition of

Crystal’s other two ocean-going vessels, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.

STAR ATTRACTION

US popstar Katy Perry christened Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Prima in Reykjavik, Iceland. The 3,100-passenger vessel is the first of six Prima-class vessels the line is due to launch by 2028. After the Queen passed away in September, many

cruise industry figures shared their experiences about meeting the late monarch. The 10-day period of national mourning ended with the news that luxury hotel chain Four Seasons was launching a cruise division led by industry veteran Larry Pimentel. Its first ship is expected to sail in 2025. Cutting-edge features on Icon of the Seas were

unveiled at a top-secret media event in Miami by Royal

Caribbean in October. The world’s largest passenger vessel is set to launch in January 2024. And P&O Cruises is set to cap off a resurgent year for

the cruise sector with the launch of its second Excel-class ship, Arvia. The 5,200-passenger ship is due to enter service with a Mediterranean sailing on December 9.
