Above and beyond
Our four special awards recognise those who have gone the extra mile in travel
Our four special awards shine a light on those who deserve some extra recognition: from industry gurus who’ve shown tireless dedication to travel, to standout individuals who’ve gone out of their way to help others. Our Outstanding Achievement and Unsung Hero
awards have become a mainstay of the Globes, and this year we’re excited to announce two new special accolades: the Sustainable Future Award, honouring companies going above and beyond in planning for an eco-conscious future; and Employer of the Year, dedicated to those putting wellbeing front and centre. “The new awards have been introduced in response to
growing awareness around mental health, staff wellbeing and sustainability, accelerated by the onset of the pandemic,” said Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley. “They join our existing special awards in recognising
individuals and companies going the extra mile in supporting the industry as we emerge from the pandemic. “I would like to thank all those that nominated and
entered across the four categories, and we look forward to celebrating with our winners on the night.”
UNSUNG HERO AWARD This award honours an extraordinary individual who has gone out of their way to improve the lives of those around them. It might be someone who’s tirelessly raised funds for charity, a colleague who’s worked round the clock to help things run smoothly or an industry friend who’s done something exceptional in the community. Last year’s winner was Emma Ramm, manager of
Barrhead Travel in the Isle of Wight. Judges honoured Ramm for her fundraising efforts and ongoing support for clients and colleagues during the pandemic. “I am in complete shock; you never think you will win an award like this,” she said on the night. “This award really does mean everything to me. It’s so lovely to be recognised.” Nominations for this year’s award have now
closed, and our judging panel will consider the worthy
entries before unveiling the winner on the night, courtesy of sponsor Seabourn.
EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR AWARD New to the Globe Travel Awards for this year, our Employer of the Year accolade is for travel companies showing exemplary commitment to staff wellbeing and development. The winner will be able to demonstrate a tried-and-tested strategy around staff progression and retention, business performance, the wider workforce and community, and putting mental health at the heart of their business plans. Entries for this award are currently being assessed
ahead of the panel-judging stage, with the shortlists to be announced nearer to the big night.
