SPOTLIGHT SILVERSEA CRUISES COMPETITION


Q. What was the atmosphere like on stage? A. It was so tense for those few minutes. We all had a one in seven chance of winning. I think we were all worried about the spike not bursting the balloon. The way that it was choreographed matched the massive prize at stake. When I won, those nearest to me came into a huddle, then [Silversea’s UK managing director] Peter Shanks and [Travel Weekly’s editor-in-chief] Lucy Huxley congratulated me.


Q. What happened afterwards? A. Everyone was asking me where I thought I might go. Peter was lovely about it all and said I could take my time.


After that, I called my husband Paul. It was all a bit crazy.


Q. Have you decided which Silversea expedition cruise you will take? A. I like wildlife and scenery. The front- runners are probably Australia or the South Pacific. I’m also considering South America. I’m overwhelmed by the prize and where I can go; it’s the stuff of dreams.


Q. How would you describe Silversea? A. Silversea is a luxury expedition line. A Silversea expedition sailing is entirely different from a standard cruise. There is a lot of interest in the market for it. And for me it’s an amazing opportunity to see what I have sold to customers.
