No-deal disruptions would soon be sorted

Brittany Ferries alters schedules in no-deal Brexit contingency The problems have been much exaggerated by Remoaners. EU producers will continue to supply us, and we them. Clearly there will be some dislocation initially, but it will quickly be sorted in everyone’s interest.

School fines system needs revision

Story: Almost half of parents ‘take children away in school term time’ As a parent, I sympathise with those taking their kids out of school to save money – and to avoid all the other families. As a travel professional, I sympathise with companies which need to make their margin when demand is high. The school fines system is obviously not working, though. And the statistic about dishonest parents being fined less than honest parents isn’t great, no matter which way you look at it. Some parents will be dishonest whatever. And some travel firms will hike prices too far. Both extremes tend to colour the whole debate. PAUL BONDSFIELD

A good agent can ease visa process

Freezing slot access would hurt both sides BREXIT

FCO issues no-deal Brexit advice on passports and driving permits With or without the Brexit debacle, it is up to clients to check a country’s entry requirements. A good travel agent should point them in the right direction or even help with the visa application. The FCO website is very helpful. Another tip: if you are going to a certain country, look up its embassy and it will have a link to its visa requirements. A well-informed agent can take the stress out of the red tape, and in return have one happy client who will return in future.

Story: European airports chief warns on Brexit The idea that having a reduced number of slots available

for EU airlines will lead to more slots for non-EU airlines is fundamentally wrong (with the possible exception of

Heathrow). Nor will it lead to the UK having more access to “more- lucrative non-EU aviation markets”. The reason is that slots are available at all UK airports (with the exception of Heathrow which is full), so if non-EU airlines want them, they can have them at just about any UK airport. The answer for Heathrow is to have another runway so it can sell more slots to the airlines that want to fly there.

“One suspects the investigation is intended to deter claims’ farmers. For British tourists, the fraud of the

few has blighted the reputation of the many.”
