Silversea’s Seven Wonders winner: I’m still dreaming!
At the Globe Travel Awards, seven agents took to the stage to compete for a Silversea expedition cruise of their choice, worth up to £32,000. It was the culmination of the line’s epic seven-month ‘Seven Wonders’ competition in partnership with Travel Weekly. Here, we talk to lucky winner Sandie Collier, a cruise concierge at specialist agency Six Star Cruises
Every agent who completed a Silversea Cruises training module – one for each of the seven continents to which the line sails – was entered into a monthly prize draw. The seven monthly
winners were invited to London for the Globe Travel Awards and invited on stage to pop a balloon. The balloon that burst with red confetti, not white, revealed the winner, which turned out to be Six Star Cruises’ Sandie Collier. Here, she reflects on her win and which Silversea cruise she might take.
Q. How does it feel to have won Silversea’s Seven Wonders competition? A. I am still as excited as I was on the night, which is a nice situation to be in.
Q. Have you sailed with Silversea before? A. Yes, I have sailed on Silver Shadow twice before – through the Panama Canal to San Francisco in 2014, and in southeast Asia in November 2017.
Q. What inspired you to enter the competition? A. I had seen the competition right from its launch but it was only in November I decided to do the modules because it was a quiet period in the year. Normally, around that time, I am doing the training
and catching up on cruise lines’ product. I thought why not make the effort to complete all the modules? I won the Australia module.
Q. You have been working in the travel industry for 30 years. How does this rank among your other highlights? A. It’s the best yet! I am not someone who wins competitions. I genuinely didn’t think I would win! For me, it was just lovely to be invited to the Globe Travel Awards. I had not been before and I thought it was just ‘wow’. All the monthly winners were chatting away on the table about which Silversea cruise we would take if we won. I was just happy to be there.
