Average job-vacancy pay hits £26,337, says C&M
Amie Keeley
More certainty around Brexit has been credited for a record rise in travel pay and a boom in vacancies. The average salary for a standard
travel job vacancy (those paying up to £40,000), rose month-on-month by 7.8% in January to £26,337 – the highest recorded since 2012. The figures are based on all new
vacancies advertised in January with C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment. Overall, across both C&M
divisions, salaries advertised in January were up 4.9% on a rolling 12-month average, but down by 2.7% on December, due to fewer higher-paid executive vacancies. There was a “sharp increase”
in the number of new vacancies advertised last month, with January’s figure more than double that for December. It was also up compared with January 2019 and 2018.
ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE:
Destination New South Wales’s new marketing campaign is encouraging visitors to ‘show their love’ for the Australian state following the bush fires crisis. The tourist board said the campaign – Now’s The Time To Love New South Wales – was inspired by community recovery initiatives. It is the first phase of a two-year recovery plan and will use photos from travellers making a heart symbol with the hashtag #LoveNSW. Stephen Mahoney, Destination NSW’s acting chief executive, said: “The communities need a break, and we can help by taking a trip soon and by sharing our experiences on social media.”

travelweekly.co.uk In terms of candidates, the number
of those looking for work increased by 140% compared with December, but was 3% down on January 2019. C&M director Barbara Kolosinska
said January was always a peak time for recruitment, but this year had been particularly strong due to the UK leaving the EU, following three- and-a-half years of uncertainty.

Candidates and
companies are getting more confident, particularly in the domestic sector
“Candidates and companies are
getting more confident, in terms of people leaving their jobs to start new ones and companies looking for staff, especially in the domestic and inbound sectors,” she said. “We’re seeing renewed confidence
in the economy. If there’s an uplift in business, then we also see that in the recruitment sector.” Kolosinska added that the biggest rise in salaries had been in the south of the country. C&M Recruitment would not
reveal how many new vacancies it advertised in January. It claims to be the biggest specialist travel recruitment company in the UK.
LATA Expo unveils ministerial summit and Europe shows
Expo 2020
This year’s inaugural LATA Expo is expected
to host at least 15% more exhibitors than at the equivalent event last year. The Latin American Travel
Association (LATA) this week officially relaunched Experience Latin America as LATA Expo. The show, Europe’s largest B2B travel event focused on Latin America, will take place from June 8-10 at Magazine London, in Greenwich. A new Ministerial Summit, on
June 10, will focus on marketing destinations to the UK and understanding the UK consumer. LATA is also to introduce its
first one-day international shows, in Amsterdam and Paris, on June 15 and 17 respectively. LATA chairman Colin Stewart
said: “The new venue, format and international events are examples of how we are expanding LATA, working closely with the media and travel trade internationally.”
