Located on the Pearl River Delta on China’s south coast, Macao is a fascinating destination with so much to explore and experience beyond its glitzy casinos. The Portuguese arrived here in the 1500s and Macao became a Special Administrative Region of China in 1999, marking its 20th anniversary this month. With so much to do, here are some of Macao’s highlights to recommend to your clients.

most of Macao

Macao, with its Portuguese-Chinese heritage and cuisine, glittering nightlife and one-of-a- kind tourist attractions, is the perfect addition to a Far East holiday or stopover on the way to Australasia. Become a Macao specialist for your chance to win one of 20 hampers

Unique Portuguese-Chinese heritage The Historic Centre of Macao is one of the best places to experience the destination’s Portuguese-Chinese heritage, and, as a Unesco World Heritage Site, should be top of the list for your customers visiting Macao. They can walk the cobbled squares and marvel at the architecture, including A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest structures in Macao. On the southern islands, waterfront Coloane village, with its striking yellow chapel, as well as Taipa Village, with its colourful houses and backstreets, further showcase Macao’s rich history.

Legendary food scene Macao is worth visiting for its food scene alone. Named a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017, everything is here, from street snacks to Michelin- starred restaurants, with Macao’s heritage reflected in its cuisine. Visitors can sample the best Chinese and Portuguese dishes, as well as the local Macanese fusion cuisine. Recommend Macao’s most iconic snack, pasteis de nata, a Portuguese egg tart. More than 21,000 are cooked every day at Lord Stow’s Bakery in Coloane.
