SPECIAL REPORT Riviera last week with 450 agents on board. Harry Kemble reports from California

Agents pledge to support Carnival’s European sailings

A Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse and Brewhouse

gents have pledged to take advantage of Carnival Cruise Line’s European deployment

in 2020-21 and appealed for more sailings in the region. Cruise Nation owner Phil

Evans said 2020 represented a “huge opportunity” to sell the line’s sailings because Carnival Legend and Carnival Radiance would “offer something different” to other ships in the Mediterranean. He said: “Carnival appeals to the

UK market. [Carnival ships] have got a real American feel and are all about fun.” InteleTravel UK director

Tricia Handley-Hughes said the homeworking group was “really excited” about Carnival’s 2021 ex-UK deployment, when Carnival Legend will offer nine ex-Dover departures.

I’m looking for

more Europe sailings. We expect 2020 to be a big year [for Carnival sales]

“We have a strategy to increase

ex-UK sales and Carnival Cruise Line’s ex-UK deployment will feed that strategy,” she said, adding that Carnival is InteleTravel’s top- selling cruise line in the UK and US markets. “There is something on board for everyone,” she said. “I can see us selling to couples because of the dining experiences on offer.” Jetline Travel managing director

Steven Roberts said: “I’m definitely looking for more sailings in Europe. We expect 2020 to be a big year [for Carnival sales].”

He added: “I can see the families

around the ship and there’s a lot going on for them. Other than families, couples and groups – people who want a fun trip. What has surprised me is the quality. Other lines claim they have the best food at sea but the quality of dining [on Panorama] has been excellent.” Christine Duffy, the line’s

president, said: “At some point we will look at what the right vessel size is to support the demand [in Europe]. “When we send a ship to

Europe we tend to get a lot of North Americans, but we do get a lot of UK guests who will book when Carnival is there. Even for people not from North America, the experience will always be a ‘North American’ one. “That is what a lot of guests,

whether they are from the UK, Spain or Italy, are looking for.”

Carnival to promote Splendor to British market

Carnival Cruise Line is to promote Australia sailings on newly refurbished ship, Carnival Splendor, to UK passengers. Splendor has repositioned to Sydney

from Long Beach, California, following a 60-day dry dock in Singapore. The 3,006-passenger ship will be

joined in Australia next year by Carnival Spirit in Brisbane where a new port, funded by Carnival, is being built. President Christine Duffy said these

deployments were part of a concerted effort to push cruises in Australia. She said: “We think this is a great

opportunity for our British friends because they all speak the same language. We want them to all love Australia with Carnival.”
