ADVERTISING FEATURE ❛ I
f, like me, food plays a big part in your family holiday, you won’t be disappointed
at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Whether you want to grab a quick snack in between attractions or treat yourself to a signature dining experience, they have it covered! First, forget the idea that
it’s all burgers and fries. They are there if you want them, but there are so many other options to suit everyone’s taste and budget. We used the MyDisneyExperience app to make reservations and it was so easy – even if you don’t have the dining plan included it’s a great way to secure your preferred table-service restaurants. If you would like a special dining experience, Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is right on the waterfront. I would recommend a dinner reservation (available 180 days before travel) to take in the spectacular views of the fireworks at Magic Kingdom Park. As for the food, they have an amazing choice of fresh seafood dishes, with the most popular being the steamed Maine lobster.
I had the wild caught shrimp and garganelli pasta which was delicious, but if seafood is not your thing, they have land-based fare such as grilled grass-fed filet mignon or my husband’s favourite, the Heritage Farms Cheshire pork rib chop served with bacon-roasted brussels
sprouts, all cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The almond-crusted cheesecake is legendary and certainly lived up to expectations – it looked fantastic and tasted even better.
PARK LIFE In the parks, we had so much choice for table-service dining. Nine Dragons Restaurant in the China pavilion at Epcot has a beautiful setting overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon. We experienced amazing service and the food didn’t disappoint either. The honey-sesame chicken was delicious and I was craving it for weeks! 50’s Prime Time Cafe in
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is great fun, as you step back to the 50s where you are served by Mom or Pop with classic American food such as Grandma’s chicken pot pie, Mom’s old-fashioned pot roast or maybe the blue plate special for a healthy alternative. Just remember to keep your elbows off the table and say please and thank you, or you’ll be in trouble with Mom or Pop! Sci-fi Dine-In Theater
Restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues the 50s theme, as you eat in a classic car-shaped booth at the drive-in showing iconic sci-fi movie clips. There is something for everyone here, whether you want to build- your-own Angus burger, try the vegetarian shepherd’s pie or
go for a healthy option such as the grilled marinated salmon salad. Make a reservation so you are guaranteed to be seated in a car-shaped booth as this really adds to the experience, and don’t forget to try the milkshakes.
QUICK-SERVICE OPTIONS There are also really good quick-service options in the parks – our favourite for lunch was Be Our Guest Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom Park inside the Beast’s enchanted castle. This is the only quick-service restaurant that you can (and need to) make a reservation for, and you also have the option of pre-ordering your meal via your MyDisneyExperience app. There are three dining areas.
The Grand Ballroom where we sat is beautiful, and if you sit next to the window you can see the snow outside. Alternatively, The West Wing houses the enchanted rose and The Castle Gallery features larger-than-life figures of Belle and the Beast dancing. You choose where you want to sit and your food is brought out to you. I had the braised pork (coq au
vin style) which was lovely, and there were options for everyone – quinoa salad, vegetable quiche and carved turkey sandwich, to name a few. You also need to try The Master’s Cupcake, topped with the “grey stuff”: it’s delicious, and if you don’t believe me, just ask the dishes!
Flame Tree Barbecue at
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has everything from the ribs, chicken and pulled pork sampler cooked in the smokehouse (plenty of napkins needed for this one!) to a lighter option of a mixed greens salad with roasted chicken breast or even a refreshing watermelon salad. Disney Springs also has some amazing places to eat. Our favourite was The Boathouse, located on the marina. It has a vibrant atmosphere and features an eye-catching Oyster Bar when you enter. We visited twice, trying the coconut-fried wild Sea of Cortez shrimp, the NY steak and fries, full-rack competition-style baby back ribs and the filet mignon sliders. They were all fantastic,
and for a signature dining experience it was really good value. Our server Jeremy was knowledgeable and friendly, and gave excellent recommendations for cocktails and desserts – the key lime pie in a mason jar is fab. After a fantastic meal, you could even finish your night by taking a trip on an amphicar or, like us, just enjoy watching them from the marina. There are so many fantastic
places to eat at Walt Disney World Resort and the Free Disney Dining offer makes it even more attractive. We can’t wait to go back to experience them all again!
