Story: Thomas Cook ‘exploring options’ for Club 18-30 brand The brand’s heyday was in the 1980s and 90s but it had a backlash due to the Club Reps TV programme. I believe the brand now needs a revamp and should move on or get parked. Anyone fancy a joint venture with Club 18-30? Also, it was a great academy for people in the industry, with many of the great and good of travel having worked for the brand.

CHRIS OAKES ASA ruling shows discounts can’t be faked

Story: Thomas Cook faces advertising criticism over discount claims What this means is you cannot fake a price which you know no one will pay and then claim you are offering a discount. To do so is clearly misleading. Reductions should be off the last price the product sold at, not some price offered 17 months earlier that no one paid. If we are not careful we will end up like furniture stores that offer no real discounts in sales that appear to be never-ending.

from there won’t travel in the other direction.”

Paul Evans deserves to rebuild life

Story: Lowcost Holidays’ Paul Evans now running a Scottish hotel Whatever your views on Paul Evans (pictured), he deserves to be able to try and rebuild his life after spending 10-plus years trying to build a successful company at Lowcost. If there has been wrongdoing that contributed or caused the collapse of Lowcost, then he will, rightly, be pursued by authorities. If not, and Lowcost was just a company that couldn’t find its way out of difficulty, then he shouldn’t be hounded for the rest of time. Businesses fail; it happens a lot. It’s easy for those who have never run a business, or had that level of responsibility, to call for a lynching every time there is a failure. MATT STUART

I lost a lot of money to Lowcost. At the time I was very bitter. The guy made mistakes. He lost a lot – money and reputation. I certainly wouldn’t go as far as wishing him well but there’s no need for a witch-hunt. Move on, what’s past is past. GUEST
