CTO plans to promote smaller islands after closure of offices


Money saved from the closure of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s UK and US offices will be spent on a marketing drive to promote all islands in the region. Part of the strategy will be to


bring the Caribbean Week trade show to London in future. Chairman Dominic Fedee


said it was important to promote tourism to the smaller islands. The UK office, in London, is


due to close on January 21, 2020, following that of the US office in New York on December 31. The CTO will be based in Barbados. Fedee said: “It’s important


to support the many smaller islands, like Anguilla, which has less than 50,000 inhabitants.” He said the CTO planned to make “more finances available for our poorer members”. The marketing campaign will be mainly digital, but with TV in “targeted markets”.


Olympic Holidays introduces guided group tours in Greece

Olympic Holidays is launching guided group tours on the Greek mainland for next summer. The operator’s first guided group product will


appear in the 2020 brochure and go live on its website for agents to book from November 22. Carl Catterall, head of marketing and


communications, said: “We will be starting with two itineraries on the Greek mainland, both departing from Athens. They will be guided group tours, which clients can book as individuals. The group size and other details are still to be confirmed. “There will be seven, eight and four-night options


available. For now it’s just two itineraries, but we might look to expand into other destinations afterwards. “It’s a natural progression for us. The mainland,

especially Athens, has become really popular, and we saw from research that people wanted to do touring. They don’t just want the beach – they’re keen to


combine it with the city and the mountains.” The move is part of an expansion plan that includes


new destinations for next year, including the Balearics, Malta and Turkey, and a return to Egypt. Olympic Holidays has also unveiled a string of


new Greek island-hopping itineraries, to appear in a dedicated island-hopping brochure on November 22. An island-hopping website has been created, with


suggested itineraries and tailor-made trips. Chief executive Clare Tobin said: “We’ve seen


island-hopping going from strength to strength. “Clients want differentiation. Families don’t just


want to fly and flop, they want to discover.” Among the new island-hopping itineraries are five


new three-centre trips and eight new twin-centre trips, all in Greece, with several smaller islands new for next year, including Andros, Poros, Spetses and Karpathos. olympicholidays.com/agents
