Trust accounts: Sweeping comments were inaccurate Story: Truly Travel failure ‘shows a real flaw’ with trust account model

The failure of Truly Travel does not reflect on the trust account model, as Alan Bowen has incorrectly stated. TTA Travel stated it will fulfil outstanding Atol-protected bookings for Teletext Holidays, ensuring there is no call on the Air Travel Trust under the Atol guarantee. In contrast, the ATT annual report details claims with a majority related to Thomas Cook. Many travel businesses made substantial losses because of Cook, a clear example of the flaws of bond protection. No consumer protection is flawless. But a well-run trust account is a better option than alternatives. PTS members prove the protection a well-managed trust account provides. Tom Clay, financial director, Protected Trust Services

Victoria Costello @Victoria21_atTC Travel Counsellors Fantastic news today as the US opens up to fully vaccinated travellers! BA and Virgin Atlantic marked the day with a simultaneous take-off at Heathrow this morning – amazing to see!

queensferrytraveluk Travel to the USA is back and our Lola is just as excited as we are! Let’s make those American dreams come true! An array of exciting, unique and fun-filled travel and holiday options await you in the USA!

It is yet to be determined whether the Truly Travel trust account will refund all those that it needs to. The Travel Network Group has been quoted as saying it “would fulfil outstanding Atol-protected bookings”, which appears to refute this speculation of a shortfall. What is not referenced in your article is that over the past 10 years, the companies that have failed with trust accounts have not cost the ATT anything. Whereas in every year of the past 10, multiple failed operators without trust accounts have called on the ATT to the combined tune of hundreds of millions of pounds. It is wrong to besmirch the excellent track record of trust accounts on the basis of one example, which may or may not prove deficient. If Truly Travel does end up calling on the ATT, then it will be the exception that proves the rule. Toby Kelly, chief executive, Trailfinders

Covid: Booster joke Story: Limits to foreign travel ‘considered for those who fail to take booster jabs’ Kelly Thomson: What! Get the vaccine they said, it’s the only way to travel. So most of us did it for that reason. Now we’re told ‘you need another or we’ll penalise you’. What a joke.

Uniforms: Smart move Story: Kuoni retail staff to wear own clothes Jo Shayler-Tarrant: Time to ditch the neck scarves. Travel agents are business people not cabin crew! Nicola Arthur: I like wearing a uniform as it looks smart but omg I hate skirts and dresses – we should be allowed to wear trousers. Steven Ireland: Uniforms? It’s not the army!
