Saint Lucia fam trips
set to resume in 2022 Fam trips to Saint Lucia are to restart next year as the Caribbean destination aims to showcase its attractions to the UK trade. Tourism minister Dr Ernest Hilaire said trips would help “reacquaint” the UK, its second-largest market, with the island’s niche sectors such as “romance tourism”.

Barbados’s UK flight capacity to increase to 80% by end of year
Flight capacity to Barbados will be restored to just under 80% of 2019 levels by the end of this year as the destination enjoys a swift recovery, according to tourism minister Lisa Cummins. Speaking at World Travel
Market, Cummins said sales to the Caribbean island “mushroomed” when Barbados went on to the UK’s green list in June and air capacity has since been restored to 60% of pre-pandemic levels. British Airways offers flights
out of Gatwick and Heathrow, while Virgin Atlantic has routes out of Heathrow and Manchester. Aer Lingus began flying from
Manchester to Barbados for the first time in October and Virgin’s first Edinburgh-Barbados service starts on December 5. British Airways is to increase
capacity out of Heathrow and Gatwick to Bridgetown by 3,000 seats over December and January. Cummins said: “We are
looking forward to the first quarter of 2022. We are expecting the end of the season to be extremely strong.”

Egypt is gearing up for a “very special year” for tourism in 2022 with new attractions set to open and landmark anniversaries to celebrate. The Grand Egyptian Museum is due to open in the
summer, and the country will mark 100 years since the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Speaking at World Travel Market, tourism and
antiquities minister Khaled El-Anany said: “We’re opening the Grand Egyptian Museum, and in November we’ll be organising a huge parade in Luxor.” He said “the British are very much connected” to the
discovery of Tutankhamun, an archaeological project led by British Egyptologist Howard Carter. El-Anany added: “It’s 200 years since the decipherment
of the Rosetta Stone, so it’s a very special year next year.” Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh has now reopened,

and El-Anany said 5,000 extra rooms had been added in the Red Sea area since Covid-19. Carrier EgyptAir restarted its direct weekly flight from
Heathrow to Luxor on November 1. Speaking at WTM, EgyptAir’s regional manager UK
& Ireland, Mohamed Mostafa, said: “It’s very good at this time to take passengers direct, not via Cairo. “Still, we have the option if [passengers] would like
to come back via Cairo.” Egypt was removed from the UK’s red list in
September, and entry requirements into Egypt are “very flexible”, said El-Anany. The country accepts fully-vaccinated visitors, or
those who have taken a PCR test up to three days before arrival. Tourists who develop Covid symptoms will be asked to isolate in their hotel at no extra charge. Egypt will also cover bills at state hospitals if necessary.
