The best of your letters, comments and social media this week BA: Fine highlights importance of GDPR compliance

Story: BA faces record £183 million data breach fine The level of this proposed fine is unprecedented in the UK. This is the first fine the Information Commissioner’s Office has announced under the new GDPR laws and it highlights the importance all businesses should place on the security of customers’ data. Data is a fundamental part of the digital economy, so maintaining its security must be a business imperative. Rachel Aldighieri, managing director,Data & Marketing Association

Awaze: Brands must adapt to meet consumers’ future needs

Comment: See 2019 as an opportunity not a threat What a thoughtful and thought-provoking article. I had to remind myself what Awaze was and when I did, I realised what a great stable of brands it owns. As Simon [Altham, chief portfolio officer] says, you can’t rest on your laurels just because you have a recognised brand. Ian Brooks, Gail Kenny Executive Recruitment

Andy Freeth @Andy_Freeth (If Only) Recently heard some great stories of travel-related things that should go in Room 101. Among ideas were hotel lights switches, no socket near the bed, airport queues and many more. I have another: 3/4-length trousers…these surely have to go in! Any other ideas?

Fam trips: ‘They’re a bit like being on Big Brother’

Agent Diary (Sarah Reeves, Swords Travel): There’s ‘always one’ on a fam trip and if you’re not sure who it is, it’s probably you! Sara Louise Short: Always feel like a fam trip could be compared to being on Big Brother. You’re put together with a group of strangers and by the end of the trip you know more about them than their families. Definitely could write a book about them as there are some real characters – some you love and some you would rather not bump into again!
