Celestyal Cruises is reaching out to UK agencies as it aims to attract 4,000 British passengers next year and 10,000 in 2020 after “literally zero” sailed on its ships last year.
This year, nearly 700 Britons
have sailed with the Greek cruise line, thanks to a “concerted effort to widen trade distribution”, chief executive Chris Theophilides said. By 2020, he is seeking 10,000 UK passengers – almost 8% of Celestyal’s targeted passenger total of 130,000. “Trade distribution is key,” said Theophilides. “We have approached and signed up agencies like Hays Travel, Iglu and Planet Cruise. THEOPHILIDES: ‘Trade distribution is key for Celestyal Cruises’
expanding trade distribution is our absolute priority.” Planet Cruise/Iglu Cruise head of commercial Jo Reid joined Celestyal Cruises in March to provide sales support to agents in the UK and Ireland. Theophilides added: “We had
never been in the UK market before this year. From literally zero in 2017, we are now attracting 700 Britons by the end of this year.” Celestyal Cruises operates
two ships, Celestyal Olympia and Celestyal Crystal, and will weigh
up whether to buy new vessels if it manages to fill extra capacity
created by extending its seasons. In 2019, the line will increase capacity by 30% by adding more sailing days. Celestyal’s seven-day round-trip
Cruise Idyllic Aegean itinerary, departing from Piraeus, Greece, on August 4, 2019, leads in at £1,079. Ports of call include Mykonos, Milos and Santorini. Theophilides said the seven-day
itineraries would operate year- round by 2020. He said seven-day sailings were destination-focused and “slow-going, reflecting the
