Story: Four convicted over fake holiday sickness claim Well done, Jet2holidays – another fraudulent claim bites the dust and, at last, something positive to say about social media. Anyone considering claiming should think carefully because ‘Big Brother’ is watching you. Even all-inclusive hotels now track consumption, by room, date and hour – no hiding place for the fraudsters!

The recent Atas Conference was incredibly successful for us. The engagement on our stand was very high, so much so we had conversations with over 150 agents during the day. Atas is a powerful voice, showing the diversity of what we as operators offer, and has made immense gains in changing the perception of escorted touring.

Story: Journey Latin America taken over by Kuoni owner This is probably a good move for Journey Latin America. Licensed for 3,438 seats after almost 40 years, serving a specialist market with limited leisure capacity, is quite an achievement. If I could offer one piece of advice to [managing director] Sarah Bradley: if you have any discretion, do not be taken ‘in-house’. Your customers still need 100% TLC and only you can give it. High streets need more than rates cut
Story: Budget could save high street agents ‘thousands’ The reduction in business rates is welcome, of course, but [chancellor] Philip Hammond has only tinkered at the edges of the wider ‘high street problem’. To be fair, this Budget was probably a sweetener, in advance of a possible election, forced by any Brexit stalemate, so not the time for dramatic policy shifts. Radical reform of the rates system is needed, but this is only a part of what needs to be done to revive traditional retail. Shops of any size should be given a ‘Right to Buy’. This would give stability for large businesses, and encourage small entrepreneurs who are put off by the risks of being tied into leases in case their business fails. Also, if shops are lying empty over a specified period, owners should be obliged to offer them for auction. These are community facilities and wider considerations apply than normal property ownership. OBSERVER
